Two months after MMS clips of couples in trains, the Metro seems to be staring at another scandal.
Metro workers are allegedly renting out rooms and toilets to couples so they can spend their "intimate moments", a recent sting operation by Zee News has found. The channel has handed over a CD to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as proof of the ongoing illegal activity at some stations.
According to the TV channel, the rooms being rented out are those allotted to lower level DMRC staff as well as public conveniences at stations. Caretakers charge couples Rs. 300-500 an hour, it has claimed.
According to sources, such activities were discovered in at least 18 stations, including Race Course, Ashok Park, Green Park and Jorbagh.
In July, the Metro was hit by the leak of several pornographic clips of couples, alleged to have taken from CCTV footage in Metro trains. With this latest incident, the Delhi Metro's security is once again under the scanner.
"A CD of the news report shown by a TV channel has been handed over to DMRC's chief security commissioner for investigation. If anyone is found involved in any such wrongdoing, stern action will be taken against the guilty," said Anuj Dayal, chief spokesperson, DMRC. He added that the washrooms are maintained and managed by private operators.
