Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has requested the union power minister to provide Delhi with the same financial aids and benefits that are given to a number of government-run state boards in the country.

Dikshit met the union power minister on Monday and requested him to provide such benefits to power distribution companies in Delhi too.

Power distribution companies are not eligible for these grants and schemes such as the Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme and the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, because these schemes are meant for government agencies and not to benefit private companies.

According to sources, the Centre has asked the Delhi government to submit a detailed proposal, which it will then consider.

“We were told in the meeting that as the schemes and grants have already been passed it will be difficult to make changes in them currently. However, we have been asked to submit a proposal for consideration which will be looked into with an open mind,” said a senior official.
