The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will introduce eight-coach trains on its busiest Dwarka-Noida/Vaishali line from Monday.

A total of 31 eight-coach trains will be introduced on the Blue Line in a phased manner.

“By the year-end, we will introduce at least 10 to 12 eight coach trains on the line. Longer trains will help us tackle overcrowding on this line that caters to an average of 9.5 lakh commuters daily,” said Anuj Dayal, chief spokesperson, DMRC.

The Delhi Metro will also run 300 extra train trips each on Monday and Tuesday to manage the passenger rush on Raksha Bandhan. The festival will be celebrated on Tuesday.

DMRC will also deploy additional personnel to handle the extra rush of commuters expected during these two days.

“Trains on both the days will be run at peak-hour frequency between 8am and 8.30pm,” Dayal said.

In 2012, over 22 lakh passengers travelled on the eve of Rakhi whereas close to 20 lakh people travelled on the day of the festival.

Metro ridership has increased substantially. Over 2.5 million commuters travelled on Metro on August 8.

For Delhi, the Dalit die is caste

For the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, locked in a fierce war to win Delhi, the main battle is for 25 lakh Dalit votes. Out of Delhi’s 70 constituencies, 12 are reserved for scheduled caste candidates because of their dominant Dalit population.
