A day after he was arrested for sexually assaulting a 35-year-old Finn national, the Delhi Police have sent Elvis Menttanna, 25, to two weeks' judicial custody and are convinced that he is a sexual predator with a fetish for foreign nationals.
Menttanna was arrested on Saturday after his victim, a Finnish national working at a city-based MNC since July 15, alleged that he had raped her at a guest house in south Delhi's Hauz Khas area hours after they met at a high-end club in a Chanakyapuri hotel on Friday night.
"Employed at a Mumbai-based translation firm, Montana is of Anglo-Indian descent, has a keen sense of fashion, and keeps shuttling between various metros to meet and befriend female foreign visitors. As per his claims, he has been ‘successful in building a sexual bond with most of his friends'," said a senior police officer.
A self-styled debonair 'gentleman' hailing from the Andamans, Menttanna, sources said, is proficient in as many as seven Indian languages, including Konkani, Tamil and Kannada and claims to have translated several regional movies to Hindi as part of his current job assignment.
While his victim, who is single, had been residing in Delhi since June, Menttanna, in the absence of a permanent accommodation, had been staying at guesthouses in south Delhi since reaching the city in early May.
"On Friday night, they had met at a disco before going to a pub where he ensured that his victim was sufficiently drunk. Then, Menttanna told her that he had hired a cab to go to his present, temporary accommodation at a guest house in Haus Khas and could drop her home," the officer said.
Instead of dropping her home, he took her to the guesthouse on the pretext of collecting some articles around 4am. Once there, the duo consumed more alcohol, after which Menttanna sexually assaulted her, allegedly at knifepoint.
Meanwhile, Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said the victim had been counselled after the incident and her mental state was stable. Sources said police have successfully verified one of the two permanent addresses — in Andheri (East) Mumbai that he provided the police — and are in the process of verifying an address in the Andamans.
