In Hauz Khas, a restaurant caught fire in the main market area on Wednesday and 10 to 12 fire tenders were sent to control it. Fire fighters in the national capital attended over 20 calls Wednesday night about fire-related incidents from across the city as Delhiites celebrated Diwali
bursting crackers.

The fire brigade got calls from almost all parts of the city but almost all of them turned out to be minor incidents.

"We received a call from Hauz Khas at around 6.25 pm. The fire workers are working to control it," said an official this evening.

In the 20 hours from midnight last till 8 pm this evening, fire fighters received 85 calls on fire-related incidents.

Between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm this evening, around 22 calls were received by the fire offices.

Last Diwali, fire brigade had received 211 calls while the number was 267 calls in 2009. In 2008, the figure was 270 and 150 in 2007.

The fire brigade had deployed fire tenders in markets which do not have fire stations nearby.

"Ninety-nine per cent of our personnel were on duty on Diwali day," said the official.
