Following incessant rains in upper Assam and neighbouring hill state Arunachal Pradesh over the last few days, water level of Brahmaputra and some of its tributaries have risen over danger level in upper Assam districts.

The eight flood affected districts are Tinsukia , Laximpur, Dhemaji , Sonitpur, Sivasagar , Jorhat, Golaghat and Morigaon.

According to the flood bulletin from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday, over 500 villages have been affected in the first wave of flood in the state.

Vast areas of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Golaghat district have also been affected. Areas of the park under Bagori and Burapahar range are submerged. Vehicular movement has been restricted from Sunday morning on NH 37, which passes through the park and which animals use to cross into the southern side on their way from the low lying areas of the park.
