The Capital woke up to a cold and foggy Sunday as mercury plummeted to its lowest levels this season.
Dense fog hampered travel plans of both air and rail passengers. More than 100 flights were delayed after visibility dipped drastically, while more than 60 trains were delayed by 10-20 hours.
Monday is expected to be equally gloomy, with the Met department predicting dense fog in the morning and cold, misty conditions through the day.
The minimum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 5.9 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal and down from Saturday’s 6.2 degrees.
“We are expecting fog on Monday. Since there won’t be much sunshine, the day will be cold,” said BP Yadav, director at the Met department. The maximum temperature on Monday is expected to be 20 degree Celsius, while minimum will be 7 degree Celsius.
Travellers planning a trip around Christmas might face a tough time, too, as the Met department has predicted equally foggy days ahead. “Dense fog is expected on December 25,” said RK Jenamani, director in charge, IGIA Met unit.
