A day after the North Delhi Municipal Corporation sealed two farmhouses along Rohtak Road, the South Delhi Corporation on Friday swung into action and sealed four farmhouses in Chattarpur. The civic body also demolished one property.

The building department of the corporation carried out the demolition drive.

“The farmhouse owners had carried out illegal construction; we sealed them after conducting a survey. Our demolition squad demolished one farmhouse. The owner had carried out massive illegal construction,” said a senior official.

Officials said they would intensify their drive against the “big fishes” who have been flouting several norms. Sources said a number of people had booked these farmhouses for wedding and other social functions.

“We will take stern action against those who have carried out illegal construction. A detailed survey has already been conducted. We will write to the Delhi police to accompany us,” added the official.

On Wednesday, the Appellate Tribunal of Corporations had directed the north corporation to seal two farmhouses and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 each on the owners. It had ordered a detailed survey of farmhouses in the area and asked the civic agency to take action against those flouting norms.

Officials said in north Delhi the corporation has already cancelled permission of 14 farmhouses for flouting norms.
