More than 100 property dealings have taken place based on general power of attorney (GPA) in the week since the Delhi High Court lifted a ban on such transactions.
According to the revenue department, all sub-registrar offices have been asked to allow registration of GPA-based properties in the city.
So far, 107 properties have been registered. The move has provided relief to lakhs of residents, especially those living in group housing societies and recently regularised unauthorised colonies.
According to the revenue department, 14 properties were registered with the Kashmere Gate sub-registrar, while four were registered in Asaf Ali Road, 18 in Seemapuri, 13 in Hauz Khas, five in Pitampura, two in Narela, five in Rohini, 26 in Geeta Colony, five Preet Vihar and 15 in Kapashera.
"We had issued the order last Monday and within a week, a number of property transactions have taken place. All the sub-registrars have been asked to register every genuine case and no complaint will be tolerated," said Dharam Pal, divisional commissioner, Delhi government.
However, sources said that some sub-registrar offices were still not registering properties through GPA and several complaints have been received.
For instance, no property was registered in the sub-registrar offices in Janakpuri, Punjabi Bagh, Seelampur, Vivek Vihar, Mehrauli, Rohini Sector 16 and INA.
Officials said revenue collection would increase by 10% due to the opening of sale and purchase through GPA.
"Our monthly revenue collection is Rs. 300 crore, which is going increase by 10%. The figures are going to further improve in the days to come," said a senior official.
Transaction through GPA was common for properties not having a clear title and revenue officials had said that the government's revenue collection had dipped following the ban on such property transactions imposed by the Delhi government last year.
According to the order issued by the divisional commissioner last week, while properties can be transferred through GPA, titles cannot be transferred.
Officials said the move would increase the number of saleable properties in Delhi. According to realty watchers, on an average, around 20% of properties are registered through GPA transfers -- a common way of selling leasehold properties and those that do not have a clear title.
