Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Sunday lauded the efforts of Home Minister P Chidambaram and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in tackling Maoist insurgency that plagues his state.
"Compared to the past experience of seven years, we have got a
good response from the central government. We are feeling better and confident (in fighting Maoist guerrillas)," Raman Singh said at the chief ministers' conference on internal security in New Delhi.
"Chidambaram has clarity of thought... the prime minister also takes interest," the chief minister told reporters.
He said there was good coordination between the police forces of the Maoist insurgency affected states in their fight against the leftwing radicals in tribal-dominated central India.
"The coordination is taking place at the level of directors general of police and inspectors general of police," he said.
Raman Singh said his government had recruited 26,000 police personnel and set up a jungle warfare school to counter the Maoist menace.
He said the central government should bear the expenses of the paramilitary forces deployed in Chhattisgarh to fight the guerrillas.
"The state has to bear around Rs. 200-400 crore because of the presence of central paramilitary troopers. This money should be borne by the centre," he said.
