The woman did not give up even when the robbers fired shots in the air to scare her. Although a crowd gathered at the scene, no one came forward to help her.

The incident occurred when the city has turned into a fortress before the New Year's celebration.

Friday's incident was reported around 2.30pm when the victim, Kusum, was walking in one of the lanes in Dayanand Colony.

"Two men on motorcycle tried to snatch her chain. The woman was quite brave and she did not let go of her chain. She fought with them," said OP Mishra, deputy commissioner of police (southeast).

"Though a crowd gathered at the scene none of them came forward to help her. She pushed them so hard that they fell down from their motorcycle," he said.

According to the police, she was injured in the scuffle and suffered bruises all over her body. The men, however, managed to flee with her pendant.

"We have registered a case and are investigating the matter," said Mishra.

Police said the woman, who lives in Jaipur, was in Delhi to visit one of her relatives.
