Identified as Sumit Sharma, 28, the unqualified owner of Jeevan Jyoti, a nursing home in Ghaziabad’s Loni, and his employee Niharika, 26, the duo were trying to sell a two-year-old baby girl, whose price they had fixed at R2 lakh.  Ravindra Yadav, additional CP (crime), said the child was recovered from them.
“On May 1, specific information was received that a gang of human traffickers was trying to sell a baby girl and that their representative would come to a restaurant in East Jyoti Nagar in east Delhi to strike a deal around 3pm,” said additional CP Yadav.

A team was constituted and a trap was laid with the help of NGO Shakti Vahini. A decoy customer was sent to restaurant and a deal was struck for R3lakh. The moment the duo handed over the child, they were arrested.

On sustained interrogation, they revealed that the mastermind of the racket ran a nursing home at Shanti Nagar in Loni.
“While running the said nursing home, Sharma, who wanted to be a doctor but failed his medical exam, came in contact with one Dina Nath, who was a part of a small human trafficking operation,” Yadav said.

Nath, the police said, offered Sharma a handsome amount for being a partner in his activities. Niharika, the daughter of a security guard who is currently pursuing a course in nursing from Meerut, was lured into his trade by Sharma.

“Investigations have further revealed that the child was procured from Shastri Park area in northeast Delhi,” Yadav added.
