The record dip in temperatures in the national Capital has pushed up the sales graph of room heaters, dealers say.

With the minimum temperature in the city hovering around as low as four degrees Celsius in the past few days, citizens are stocking up on room heaters.

"In the past few days, we have seen this season's top sales of room heaters. In fact, this is the item that has been selling the most at our shop right now. We have been selling 15 to 20 pieces a day," said RK Gupta of an electrical store in Noida.

"The demand for room heaters has definitely increased over the past few days. We are selling around 50 to 60 pieces a day. As it gets colder, the sale will increase even further," said Rishikesh Kumar from a store in Malviya Nagar.

Sale of room heaters at some stores increased significantly on Wednesday when the maximum temperature fell to 9.8 degrees, making it the coldest January day in 44 years.

"Till even yesterday, the sale was not much. But it really picked up today," said Pawan Rajput of an appliance store in South Extension-I market.

However, most said that even though the sale has been high, it has not broken any previous records.

"The sale is good but it is not comparable to the bumper sale that was seen in January 2011," said Ajay Gupta of an electrical appliances store in Pitampura.

"It's like every year. The sale is normal; we haven't seen any record jump in sales," said Jasbir Singh of a store in Jangpura.
