India has conveyed to Afghanistan that no terrorist attack could deter it from assisting the war-torn country in reconstruction and development efforts.

The assurance came during foreign secretary Sujatha Singh's meeting with the top Afghanistan leadership, including President Hamid Karzai, during her first visit abroad after having assumed office on July 31.

The visit from August 23 to 25 came days after suicide bombers targeted India's consulate general in Jalalabad on August 3 in which nine civilians, including seven children, were killed in a nearby mosque.

Singh held talks with her Afghanistan counterpart Ershad Ahmadi. He also met first vice president Mohammed Fahim, second vice president Karim Khalili and foreign minister Zalmai Rassoul. Singh also paid a special visit to the Indian consulate in Jalalabad.
