Elections to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union have been deferred by a few days. The elections, which were earlier scheduled for February 23, will now be held on March 1.

Filing of nomination papers for the polls has been postponed to February 21 from Monday.
Elections to the union will be held after a gap of four years.

"There has been a change in the schedule. The election committee met this afternoon and the polls have been deferred by a few days," said Sandeep Singh, member, All India Students' Association (AISA).

Members of some contesting parties claimed that the entire process was unfair since the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations state that elections must be held within six to eight weeks of the commencement of the new session.

"The academic session had begun in July. But the Supreme Court decision came only in December. There is hardly a month left for the exams and these elections should have happened long back," said a member of Youth for Equality.
