Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday started an indefinite fast against ‘inflated’ power and water bills in Delhi as part of a ‘civil disobedience’ movement with an eye on the upcoming local elections.

“I appeal to everybody in Delhi not to pay their bills, inflated due to corruption,” Kejriwal said in Sundar Nagari, a slum redevelopment cluster in northeast Delhi. “Burn these bills for Holi.”

He said people think that if they don’t pay their bills, electricity would be cut. “Go ahead and reconnect. It’s your power,” he said. “At most, there would be a police case. When AAP  comes to power in November, these cases will be withdrawn.”

He missed the point because the Delhi Police don’t report to the chief minister.
