Kerala and Cong heave relief sigh

The return of the Italian marines has come as relief to the Kerala government and the Congress.

The killing of two Indian fishermen by the marines before a crucial bypoll snowballed into a major issue, with the CPM dragging Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s name in it.

Also, the fishermen community — largely Latin Catholic church — is an influential vote bank. On Friday, CM Oommen Chandy praised the Centre for its efforts.
