The government on Wednesday said accountability should be fixed for the alleged violations of human rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka, but it refused any direct intervention in the sovereign affairs of any other country.

Replying to a calling attention motion in Rajya Sabha, external affairs minister Salman Khurshid said the government shared the concerns of the MPs, but did not elaborate on the position it will take at the UN on a resolution against Sri Lanka.

Cutting across the party lines, many members demanded an independent probe into the killing of LTTE chief Prabhakaran's 12-year-old son Balachandran.

DMK said it has lost faith in the government and its members staged a walkout along with those from AIADMK and Left.
