The two Indian engineers abducted in Nigeria are safe with negotiators hopeful of their early release, the family of one of the men said on Thursday.

Lata Kakoty, the wife of kidnapped 32-year-old fire engineer Debashish Kakoty, refused to give much details but said "things are positive."

"That's all I can say right now," she told PTI from Port Harcourt in Nigeria.

In Sivasagar, Debashish's father Ajit Kakoty is waiting eagerly to hear some good news. "My daughter-in-law had on Wednesday spoken to my son," he said.

Lata has been told by her husband's employer, oil exploration company Indorama, that they are on with their negotiations.

Kakoty, who hails from Sivasagar town in Assam, and Sunil Dave of Maharashtra were abducted from their residential quarters in Port Harcourt on Saturday morning.
