Senior officials of the industry department said that the industry owners have been provided plots in newly developed industrial areas of Bawana and Bhorgarh and have also been given space at the existing industrial areas of Narela, Jhilmil, Badli and Patparganj for relocation.

"We have allotted industrial plots and flatted factories to 22,499 industrial units functioning in residential or non-conforming areas under the relocation scheme. Adequate time has been given to these industries to construct factories and relocate to these approved industrial areas," a senior Industry Department official said.

Giving orders on a public interesting litigation, the Supreme Court had directed to close down industrial units functioning in residential and non-conforming areas of Delhi in 1996.
