A 32-year-old man, who allegedly used to sell LPG cylinders at much higher prices in the black market after taking them forcibly from gas agencies, was arrested, the police said on Tuesday.
Shakir, a resident of Malviya Nagar in Delhi, was arrested from his "hideout" and two gas cylinders, one GAITY and a motorcycle used in commission of his crime were recovered from his possession.
The police action came based on a complaint from Kanta Manchanda, of Sainik Farms in New Delhi, that Shakir used to take about eight to 10 gas cylinders daily from her delivery boys and when they resisted, he used to intimidate or beat them.
"When the villagers protested his activities, he used to injure himself and create a scene to scare them," the police said.
"He had stout body and used to intimidate the local residents by flexing his muscles. He had learnt that there is always a demand of cooking gas cylinders from restaurants and dhaba owners and they were ready to pay twice or three times the the actual price of the cooking gas," HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south) said.
