When his daughter eloped, Qadir Khan (38) thought of a novel way to get her back. Khan kidnapped a six-year-old cousin of the man his daughter had eloped with, and asked for a ransom, police said.
Khan apprehended the boy from east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar and fled to Bihar. The police on Tuesday rescued the child from Bihar and arrested Khan.
“He had asked for a ransom of Rs. 1.5 lakh,” said Anand Mohan, DCP (east).
Devanand, the boy’s father, had lodged a missing report on July 27. “On July 26 his son went out to play and did not return home,” the officer said.
During the course of investigations it came to light that Devanand has a nephew called Chandan, who lived in Gurgaon.
“Chandan had a love affair with Khan’s daughter and the two eloped in the first week of July. Khan wanted Devanand to make efforts to return his daughter,” the officer said.
He kidnapped the child with the help of another person and fled to his native place in Bihar. “On July 29, Devanand received a call and a ransom call two days later,” Mohan said.
A police team went to Bihar and laid a trap. The accused came to collect the ransom and seeing the police, they fled leaving the child.
“Khan was later arrested from Gorakhpur and we are searching for the other accused,” the officer added.
