Man who fled with cash van arrested from his UP home

The 39-year-old man who allegedly fled with a cash van with Rs. 49 lakh in it from at Karol Bagh on Thursday has been arrested in Etah in Uttar Pradesh.

The booty was found on Satish Yadav and one of his arrested accomplices. Another accomplice is still on the run.

The Delhi Police had on Wednesday said that Rs. 54 lakh had been stolen from the cash van found abandoned in Raigerpura. They clarified later that `5 lakh had been deposited in an ATM before the driver fled.

The company too said in a statement that “ Rs. 49 lakh was stolen” on Wednesday.

Sandeep Goel, joint CP, central range, said 39-year-old Satish had joined the company, Cash Management Services (CMS), as a driver on September 20. He had said his name was Sanjay.

He and his accomplice, a cousin named Shailendra, were arrested around 4.30am from their home.

Satish had fled with the van on Wednesday around 10.50am while his colleagues were loading money at an ATM on Padam Singh Road. 

“Their interrogation revealed that Shailendra was the mastermind. He got Satish placed in CMS with a fake name and address proof,” said Goel.

A statement issued by CMS, under scanner for hiring Satish without thorough checks, said: “We follow stringent guidelines to ensure the security of the cash in our care — including extensive background verification,  (and) identity checks...”
