The six-year-old girl, who was brutalised and was found unconscious in a public toilet in Badarpur, is recovering, said a senior doctor at AIIMS trauma centre.

The girl had suffered critical injuries to her private parts and had a deep cut on her neck when she was admitted to the hospital.

“The six-year-old is recovering. She is still in the ICU at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. We are closely monitoring her and there is a risk of infection in her private parts and neck,” said Dr Biplab Mishra, trauma surgeon, on Sunday.

“We have started giving her semi-solid food like mashed banana and liquids. We might put her on solid diet from tomorrow,” said Dr Mishra.

According to the doctor, a sample of tissue and liquid from the rectal-vaginal parts of the girl has been sent for medical examination to confirm whether it was a case of rape.

“There is severe damage to the anal canal. The medical reports are yet to come and it would confirm whether it was rape. She has suffered severe rectal-vaginal injuries and there is evidence of penetration. The report would go straight to the police,” the doctor added.

The victim is a resident of slum clusters near the Badarpur area. She had gone to the public toilet where she was later found  crying in pain.
