Friday saw the opening of a multi-level parking lot in Model Town II, but the North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s apathy has not allowed the already inaugurated lot at Parade Ground to see the light of day yet.
Only one level of the multi-level underground parking facility in the heart of Chandni Chowk is functional, while the other two are not yet ready for vehicles.
Residents and businessmen of the area have demanded swift completion of the project.
“The non-functional Parade Ground parking is causing severe trouble as customers and shopkeepers have no place to park their vehicles. The other parking lot in Chandni Chowk gets full by noon. This parking lot was inaugurated last year before the MCD elections. Despite several orders by the Delhi High Court, the parking lot is not fully operational.
Parking on the surface and level one of the basement is allowed here. The contractor is overcharging and there are no lights in the parking lot. Despite several requests to the north corporation, the parking lot is not functioning up to its full capacity till date,” Sanjay Bhargava, general secretary of Chandni Chowk Sarv Vypar Mandal, said.
According to a senior North civic body official, work is still pending in this underground lot due to which the handover process is yet to be completed. “The -1 level is already functional. We had tried to make the -2 level functional, but some work was on. The -3 level, too, is yet to be made functional,” the official told Hindustan Times.
