Naqvi said: "For an international love guru like him, a ministry of Love Affairs should be created."

Human resource development minister MM Pallam Raju on Wednesday came out in defence of his ministerial colleague Shashi Tharoor, terming as unfair the BJP's taunt that the minister of state for HRD should be made minister of "love affairs".

Raju was reacting to BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's comment that a "love affairs ministry" should be created for Tharoor.

HRD Minister Raju called the comment unfair.

"It is very unfair to comment on a person who is as experienced as Shashi Tharoor. He has vast experience, he has worked in the UN (United Nations)," Raju said.

A day after Gujarat CM Narendra Modi referred to Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar as a " Rs. 50-crore girlfriend", Tharoor chose his favourite medium - Twitter - to hit back.

Tharoor's tweet, "@narendramodi My wife is worth a lot more than your imaginary 50 crores. She is priceless. But you need2be able2love some1 2understand that," which was retweeted over 1300 times and favorited by nearly 300, led to a Twitter fight between supporters of both the politicians.

Speaking to reporters after he tweeted, Tharoor said, "He (Modi) was silly to make that remark.. so I replied saying my wife is priceless.. and I added that he needs to love someone to understand that.. now we have to see if he is capable of understanding that.."

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's potshots at Tharoor's personal life has drawn sharp reaction on social networking platform Twitter.

"There was a Congress leader who was a minister in Parliament. He was accused of amassing wealth from cricket. He had said in Parliament that he is not connected to the Rs. 50 crore that in the lady's name," Modi said, asking "Have you ever heard of Rs. 50 crore girlfriend?"

Modi apparently referred the IPL controversy linked with Sunanda Pushkar, which resulted in Tharoor's resignation from the council of ministry as junior external affairs minister.

Modi's dig received severe flaks from the twitteratis, calling his statement "irresponsible and cheap."

A twitter user commented, "Narendra Modi has again proved how insane & uncivilized a person he is. He doesn't even know how 2 talk about a lady." Another comment came from "@pierrefitter : Dear Narendra Modi, you heard that one about glass houses? Attacking Tharoor's wife - not a great idea."
