Modi to visit Uttarakhand

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will visit floods battered Kedarnath and other areas in Uttarakhand. He will also conduct an aerial survey of the disaster hit areas on Saturday.


The state government also launched a flight service from Dehradun to Ahmedabad to bring back Gujarati tourists affected by the calamity there.

“The state government has procured two air craft to bring back people from Uttarakhand to Gujarat. The state government has also sent a team of officials to coordinate relief and rescue operations and also help people of Gujarat who are stranded there,” a Gujarat government official said.

According to a preliminary estimate, more than 5000 people from the state were on holidays and pilgrimage at various places in Uttarakhand and more than a dozen have died so far.

“The casualty figure is expected to go up significantly,” the official added.

The Modi government has also announced financial assistance of Rs. 2 crore to the Uttarakhand government.

Meanwhile, the opposition party Congress also sent a high level delegation to help in coordination of rescue operation there.
