A 22-year-old woman was raped, allegedly by her neighbour, in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri three days ago.

According to police, the incident came to light after the victim's husband filed a complaint at the Mangolpuri police station against his neighbour, identified as Ram Sarai, 34.

Police have registered a case of rape and have detained Sarai for questioning. Sources said Sarai was booked on charges of rape after the victim's medical examination confirmed sexual abuse. Senior police officers, however, said that Sarai has been arrested.

A police officer said the victim's husband works at a private factory in Mangolpuri. He was out for work when the accused entered his house. Sarai allegedly tried to force himself on the victim and when she resisted his attempt, he threatened her with dire consequences.

The victim in her statement alleged that the accused threatened her with a gun. Sarai left the victim's house after raping her.

She narrated the entire incident to her husband when he returned home after work.

"The victim's husband approached the local police and the woman was sent to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital where her medical examination confirmed rape," said the police officer.

He said the accused is married and a father of two. Both the accused as well as the victim hail from Bihar.
