The home ministry distanced itself from leaks of the intercepted conversations of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, with home secretary GK Pillai insisting that he did not have access to the tapes and could not have leaked them.

"I wish to clarify that neither I nor the Ministry of Home Affairs had access or have any access to any of the tapes concerning the interception of the telephones of Ms Niira Radia," Home Secretary GK Pillai said in a clarification on Saturday.

"Since I have neither heard nor seen the tapes, the allegations that I am leaking these tapes, at the behest of the Union Home Minister, is totally unfounded and false," the statement said, responding to suggestions in a newsmagazine that linked North Block to the tapes.
