Ahead of its bijli-paani rally at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed it has received no response from chief minister Sheila Dikshit regarding the bunch of letters protesting inflated power and water bills in the Capital.

Dikshit questioned the authenticity of these letters but said, “We will receive anybody and everybody.”

As part of the mobilisation during Kejriwal’s 15-day fast which ended on April 6, AAP had collected more than 9 lakh letters addressed to the chief minister, pledging not to pay inflated power and water bills “due to corruption”.

The AAP has been demanding since then— and demanded again —that Dikshit sends over two clerks to receive these lakhs of letters. “We got the letter hand delivered, we faxed it and also e-mailed it. But we have not received any response yet,” Manish Sisodia, AAP spokesperson said.

As a follow up of Kejriwal’s 15-day fast — termed as the civil disobedience movement against inflated power and water bills — at Sundar Nagari in northeast Delhi, AAP has declared a rally at Jantar Mantar on Sunday.

After staying put at Jantar Mantar from 11 am till 3 pm, if there is no response from the chief minister’s side, AAP supporters and leaders will march towards her residence at Motilal Nehru Marg, Sisodia said.

Dikshit told HT, “We have received their message. We will receive anybody and everybody.”

However, she questioned the authenticity of AAP’s claims about the letters. “We have got 70-odd letters with us. None of the letters have matching names and signatures. It was signed by some one and the name on the other side on the same line was of different person,” she said.
