Normalcy back in Bangalore, people will return: Shettar

Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday said normalcy had come back to Bangalore and expressed confidence that all the people from northeastern states, who had left Bangalore due to rumours, would soon be back in the city.

Shettar, who was in New Delhi to attend BJP chief ministers' conference, said that despite the rumours, not a single untoward incident had occurred in the state.

"Normalcy has come back to Bangalore. We have given security to all northeast people. They are very much safe in Bangalore. We have built up confidence in the people from the North East who are staying in Bangalore for the last ten twelve years," Shettar said.

"Some rumours had been spread...but uptil now not one untoward incident has taken place in Bangalore and yesterday five persons have been arrested by the police and we have started investigations and we'll find out the culprits and punish them," he added.

The Karanataka chief minister also said ministers from northeastern states had inspected the steps taken by his government and had expressed satisfaction. Situation calm in Assam, 2 trains arrive from Bangalore

"Cabinet ministers from Assam and other states came yesterday and they said Karnataka government has given all the security, had taken all security measures and we are satisfied by the measures," he said.

Asked who were the culprits who had spread the rumours, Shettar said that "it will come out after investigations".

He said many from the northeast had gone because their family members called them and would be back soon.

"They will come back. Because some parents were calling, they have gone. They will come back. We have given assurance to all northeast people," Shettar said.
