No need to queue up at the enrollment centre, Aadhaar card holders can now update their personal details at the click of a mouse.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a website to enable correction of demographic details — name, date of birth, address, contact number, etc — on its database.
The authority has issued Aadhaar numbers to around 220 million of the 270 million who have enrolled for it across India. The number is recognized as valid proof of identity and address for many government schemes and will be central to direct cash transfers for 42 central schemes from January.
To change details online, register yourself on the website with your Aadhaar number and log in with the help of a one-time password that will be sent to your registered mobile number by UIDAI. The changes will be made after you upload the relevant documents.
You can also mail the changes required with the documents to support them to the UIDAI’s regional offices. However, for changes in biometric details such as fingerprint and retina scan, you will have to visit the enrollment centre, the UIDAI said in a statement on Friday.
The regional office will call you to verify if you have made a request. Once the request is approved, you can download a new Aadhaar letter from the website’s e-service link, except in the case of a change in mobile number — which makes the bulk of such requests.
