Art connoisseurs are in for a treat this week as five different thought processes and artistic sensibilities are merging on one stage at Gallery 7 and 8 of Lalit Kala Academy.

A Prologue To Unreal, presented by Panchkone, features five young artists — J. Deepa, Pallavi Singh, Raj Kumar Sahani, Rohit Dalai and Tahsin Akhtar — who have come together to showcase their work in a common show.

Pallavi Singh, 24, has been working on the theme of metrosexual man and his trysts with growing old. "My works are on men within the age bracket of 40-60," Pallavi said.

J. Deepa uses the colours black and white in an obvious attempt to do away with the stereotypes attached to them. "It is my way of trying to break these conventions through illustrative language," she said. All three of her works — B-for-black, Checkmate and Black Book — reflect great artistic maturity for someone who is in her early 20s.

Raj Kumar Sahani's Black Supper reminds one of the Last Supper and Georgian film 13 Tzameti and is arguably one of the best pieces of the show.

The hidden smile by Tahsin Akhtar, in which Monalisa dons a burkha and her famous smile is muted, is a clever treatment on one of the most important pieces in art history.

The quirkiest and craziest of the whole bunch is Rohit Dalai. His works are movie posters and album covers on huge canvas stressing on the obsession with size and things the artist loves and hates. Curated by Premjish Achari, the show, which was inaugurated on Saturday, will be on till next Friday.
