Four days after the brazen killing of 62-year-old Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader-cum-businessman Deepak Bhardwaj, the Delhi Police are likely to make their first arrest in the case, sources said on Saturday.

Rakesh, a resident of northwest Delhi's Alipur village and the owner of the silver grey Skoda Laura car used in the episode would be the first to be arrested, said sources.

"Initially, Rakesh had claimed that he was not in the know of the plot to kill Bhardwaj and had been fooled by Purushottam and Sunil, the two men who carried out the hit, into giving up his car for a spin," said a senior officer.

Rakesh had claimed that the duo had reportedly fooled him into letting them use the car on the pretext of buying it and asked him to take it for a spin before sealing the deal.

"What has now emerged, however, is the fact that he was in the know of the entire plot and had willingly become a part of it in return for money."

It was his knowledge of the plot, sources claimed, that made him travel all the way to Haryana's Bahadurgarh to retrieve the said Skoda vehicle in his name after being called and asked to meet the accused duo hours after the bid on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, sources said they had an apprehension that the accused duo's lives might be in danger since the person who hired them to get Bhardwaj out of his or her way was plausibly considering eliminating them to stall the trail from leading to his or her doorstep.

"Raids are being conducted in three separate states to get Purushottam and Sunil," said the officer.

"The stakes are high and the case has received publicity of such magnitude that their lives might be in danger from their own employer," said the officer.

Sources said that both Purushottam and Sunil have cases of attempt to murder and rape registered against them at the Alipur and Shahbad Dairy police stations.
