In her farewell speech, outgoing President Pratibha Patil urged the nation to fight corruption terming it as the “enemy of development and good governance”.
Patil, the first woman President, also emphasised that the government must deliver results as people’s expectations are rising. “Expectations are rising and the people are seeking quicker responses to their problems. It is in these settings that promises are to be met, duties to be performed, and results to be delivered,” she said.
Patil also brushed aside negative attitudes and cynicism saying this is “not in the interest of our country”.
