The drama that started with the gunfight on Saturday continued all through Sunday.

Police insisted on a second post-mortem examination of Ponty Chadha’s body after being informed by doctors at AIIMS that there were still “three to four” bullets lodged inside.

The bodies of both brothers were therefore taken back to AIIMS, leading to an anxious wait at the Lodhi crematorium, where their last rites were to be performed together in accordance with their mother’s wish. Ponty’s body was finally released at 8.30pm and the funeral held thereafter.

Blaming the “inefficiency” of the doctors, a police officer said, “After we were told there were still bullets lodged in Chadha’s body, we had no option but to request another post-mortem.”AIIMS sources blamed it on a “miscommunication”.
