The Delhi Police on Monday ruled out any foul play in the death of slain airhostess Geetika Sharma’s mother who had committed suicide late last week.
Six months after Geetika Sharma committed suicide at her Ashok Vihar home, her 52-year-old mother, Anuradha Sharma, also hung herself, allegedly in the same room as her daughter.
“The result of her mother’s post-mortem report have been received. It indicates asphyxia as the cause of death,” said an officer. He said that there was no reason to suspect any foul play in the incident.
Meanwhile, police have initiated legal proceedings required prior to questioning Gopal Goyal Kanda and his employee Aruna Chaddha — whom Geetika and then her mother had held responsible in their respective suicide notes.
Geetika had committed suicide in August last year alleging ‘mental harassment’ by her boss, then minister of state for home in Haryana government and managing director of MDLR group, Gopal Kanda. Kanda has since been arrested.
“We are currently in the process of questioning the victim’s family about the possible trigger of her extreme step. Kanda and Chaddha will be questioned soon,” the officer said.
According to police, Anuradha returned from her office at 4.30 pm.
She worked as an accountant at the finance ministry. The post-mortem was carried out at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri.
