An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi police, posted at Subzi Mandi police station, has been arrested by the southeast Delhi police for allegedly robbing an Agra-based jeweller of 5 kg silver bricks and Rs. 2 lakh in cash. Three of his accomplices have also been arrested.

ASI Rishipal Singh allegedly robbed Gauri Shankar Aggarwal on March 21 after accusing him of smuggling jewellery. His accomplices have been identified as Haisuddin, Rahul and Ramesh. He is allegedly involved in other crimes too, which are being investigated.

A senior police officer said the arrests came following Aggarwal’s complaint that four men, including a Delhi Police officer, robbed him when he was returning to Agra.

“On the way, near the Millennium bus depot, Aggarwal’s car was intercepted by an Innova car. A police officer stepped out and told Aggarwal that they were taking him to a DCP’s office as they suspected him of smuggling,” said the officer.

They drove him to Sarai Kale Khan inter-state bus terminus and forcefully took the cash and silver bricks from him. “They also threatened him not to report the incident,” said the officer.
