As investigators engage in weaving the exact sequence of events that preceded the fatal confrontation between Gurdeep Singh alias 'Ponty' Chadha and his younger brother Hardeep, highly-placed sources have claimed the showdown was triggered by a seemingly innocuous 'for sale' sign at the disputed property.

According to senior police officers from Uttar Pradesh, where Ponty owned and operated several businesses, the liquor baron had met the Delhi Police commissioner three days prior to his death to seek guidance on how to tackle his brother's 'blatant disregard' for a judicial decision on the disputed property.

"An advocate commissioner had mediated in the litigation that both brothers were engaged in over the farmhouse and instructed them to maintain status quo at the said property," the officer said.

"However, Hardeep put a 'for sale' sign outside 42, DLF Chhatarpur Farms. Since the said property is located in Delhi, Ponty met the Delhi police commissioner to seek guidance," he added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police, which registered a total of three criminal cases - two of criminal trespass against Ponty's men and one of murder - is yet to even acknowledge the confrontation that took place between Ponty and Hardeep's men at the same disputed farmhouse 12 hours before the fatal shootout.

"Between 11:30pm and midnight on Friday, Ponty and Hardeep's men had clashed at the same spot when the former had arrived to lock it down," said an officer.
