Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, the sacked Uttarakhand minorities commission chairman who already is facing trespassing, dacoity, snatching and attempt to murder charges, could be booked for destruction of evidence too.

Sources claimed Namdhari, with the help of his son, got the code of his gun from which he allegedly fired at Hardeep Chadha -- liquor baron Ponty Chadha's brother -- changed so that ballistic examination would not be able to match the fired bullet recovered from the crime scene with his gun.

"We were surprised by the way Namdhari helped us recover the 7.62mm bore gun. Scrutiny revealed the code of the gun had been changed. An expert from Rampur has been detained and we are trying to trace Namdhari's son and a relative, who may have helped him tamper with it," a senior police officer, who did not wish to be identified, said.
