Most parts of east and central Delhi remained without any power on Saturday after a 220 KV substation at Wazirabad developed a technical fault leading to tripping of several lines.

Areas such as Mayur Vihar, New Ashok Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Pandav Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, Darya Ganj among others were severely affected.

Power department officials said power distribution companies were asked to carry out load shedding on a rotational basis.

“A 220 KV substation at Wazirabad developed a technical snag which resulted in tripping of several other power lines. Due to this, power supply to a number of east and central Delhi areas was affected for two to three hours,” said a senior Transco Limited official. Normal supply was restored after a few hours.

“East Delhi has been suffering power cuts for quite some time now. It is impossible to carry out daily chores in the absence of electricity,” said Anant Singh, a resident of Mayur Vihar phase I.
