The Prasar Bharati Board will meet on Monday to appoint a senior information and broadcasting ministry official as its acting chief executive officer. The move comes after a Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) indictment and subsequent suspension of the board’s former CEO, BS Lalli.

“There are multiple issues to be sorted out. Appointing an acting CEO is of course the first priority. Also, many issues relating to administration, finance, employee strength, and protests by workers have been on hold for too long. They are all on the agenda for Monday’s meeting,” a senior government functionary told Hindustan Times on Sunday.

“Prasar Bharati’s public image has taken a massive beating. Our reputation is in tatters because of petty infighting. Doordarshan and All India Radio employees threaten strike every month. We are short-staffed all over. There is systemic rot that will have to be addressed,” a PB member said.

The broadcaster’s CEO BS Lalli was suspended on December 22 by a Presidential reference, pending an inquiry by the Supreme Court into allegations of financial mismanagement on several counts by the CVC.
