The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the DDA to frame guidelines to give preference to people with disabilities of any kind for allotment of land at concessional rates.

Till now, the DDA gave such a benefit to only those with physical disabilities. Those with mental illnesses were left out.

Such a preference is usually given to entrepreneurs with disabilities so that they can set up factories or for building of special recreation centres and special schools.

A bench of chief justice D Murugesan and justice VK Jain also directed the DDA to incorporate a condition while allotting land to cooperative societies — they too should give preference to persons with disabilities. The directions came on a PIL filed by All India Confederation for the Blind.
