As the rain threatened to further push last-minute arrangements for next month’s Commonwealth Games, President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Monday, discussed the mega sporting event and other issues of national importance. The meeting lasted for about 45
minutes, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said. Besides the situation in J&K, naxalism and the food storage facility, the statement said the commonwealth games 2010 also came up for discussion.

Patil is the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony.

With Sunday morning’s firing outside Jama Masjid, the focus vis-à-vis the Games has shifted back to the security arrangements. Home Secretary G.K. Pillai had on Sunday inspected the arrangements at the Commonwealth Games Village and the Logistic Screening Centre.

Pillai will chair the security review meeting on Tuesday, around the same time that National Security Guard commandos move into the Games Village.

The Games venues and village, where the first batch of international participants are expected to move in on Thursday, have been taken over by security agencies.

“The Commonwealth Games Associations, representing nations and territories, have been satisfied with the plans and preparations made by Delhi Police,” a source said.
