President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday congratulated social worker and activist Deep Joshi for being nominated for the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award.
"I am happy to learn that you have been recognised for your pioneering work for the development of rural communities and awarded the prestigious Magsaysay Award for 2009. Your efforts in the area of rural development touch upon a crucial issue for inclusive growth in our society," Patil said in a letter to Joshi.
The 62-year-old Joshi, was chosen for his contribution in the field of rural development. He was named on Monday,along with five others for the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2009, considered as Asia's equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
Praising Joshi's contribution to the development of rural population in different states, the president hoped that his work would also inspire and benefit others.
"I hope that your work will inspire others to follow your example and dedicate themselves to the welfare of the nation and humanity at large," she said.
