Five new Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas and a state-of-the-art skill development centre will come up in Delhi.

In her Budget speech on Wednesday, chief minister Sheila Dikshit stressed her government’s focus on the need for addressing the problem of quality government schools in the city as well as skill development.

She also announced a meagre hike in the allocation for education — Rs.1,981 crore from last year’s Rs.1,901 crore — along with new campuses for Delhi government-run colleges.

She said the construction of five Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas will begin this year. These will be come up in Mahipalpur, Khichripur, Sector 22 Rohini, Lal Kuan Tehkhand Village and IP Extension (Mandawli Fazalpur).

The government has also planned to start an exclusive RPVV for science subjects, will also come up at Science Centre Link Road.  It has also been decided to add another 34 new school buildings.

To encourage best education practices, the award for teachers will go up from Rs.11,000 to Rs.25,000 and that for students from Rs.2,100 to Rs.5,000 under the Indira Gandhi Award scheme.

The new skill development centre, to be set up with the help of Singapore, will come up in Jaunapur in southwest Delhi.

While the centre will be ready only by 2015, admissions for some programmes will start this year itself at the ITI in Vivek Vihar.

Work on construction of new campuses for the Delhi government-run colleges will also be taken up in the next financial year.
