A CBI source told HT, “Singh had said that when the violence erupted in Kunda in the evening of March 2, he was in Lucknow and had gone to meet the UP chief minister with his official driver in his then capacity as a minister. His statement was factual.”

The source said, “We got in touch with officials of the UP Chief Minister’s Office to verify the contents of the footages and found that they corroborate what Singh had said. He was indeed in Lucknow and had gone to meet the CM around the time violence had erupted in Kunda.”

Due to the violence that erupted, while Haque and Balipur village head Nanhe Yadav got killed, the latter’s brother had an accidental death.

According to the source, the scrutiny of telephone call detail records have indicated that Singh was not in touch with accused persons arrested by the CBI in its probe.
