Ramdev on Sunday joined the people protesting the rape of the 23-year-old woman and demanded that those involved be hanged.

Addressing his followers at Jantar Mantar, Ramdev and former army chief VK Singh also demanded that fast-track courts handle cases of rape and sexual harassment.

“By delaying the hanging and formation of fast track courts, the government has proved that it loves rapists more than it loves the victims. Till the time stringent laws are brought in, rapes will continue to occur in the country because the culprits assume they will go unpunished,” he said.

Ramdev and his followers, on their way from Haridwar, were stopped at the Uttar Pradesh border because the police had imposed restrictions on gatherings under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Ramdev and his followers ran into police resistance when they decided to walk from Jantar Mantar to India Gate to join the other protesters.

As the crowd of about 500 people started towards the barricades, police stopped them. When some of the protesters turned violent, the police had to use batons, which hurt two of the protesters who were later admitted at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
