Fifteen of Delhi’s 17 venues for next October’s Commonwealth Games will be ready by December 31 this year, Commonwealth Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi said on Wednesday.
“We’ve always maintained that the venues — except the cycling velodrome and the Games Village — will be completed by December 31, and we’ll achieve our goal,” he said.
Not even one of the 17 venues is complete yet. The on-field experts hired by the organising committee say the December 31 deadline cannot be met.
The Australian engineers building the roof of the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium say they need “at least six months”.
Graeme Hudson, the New Zealander who is shooting manager for the Games, said, “We should get the Karni Singh Shooting Range in order by mid-November for the installation of equipment. It should be ready for the Commonwealth Games in February-March.”
