The schedule for BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s re-election is likely to be announced in a day or two with internal polls being completed in half of the party’s state units on Friday.
Gadkari’s nomination papers are likely to filed by senior BJP leaders as a show of unity and unanimity.
Thwarchand Gehlot, BJP general secretary who is the returning officer for the party chief’s election, said that under BJP’s constitution, at least 50% of the 35 state units must complete their internal polls for the national president to be elected. “That requirement has been met with 18 units having completed the process.”
Gehlot said the schedule would be announced, keeping in view the convenience of senior leaders who wish to file the nomination papers.
Gadkari re-emerged as the choice after RSS made it clear that it wanted him to continue in office in view of the 2014 polls.
